A Body Discovered in the Rio Grande Identified as a Texan National Guard Member

Bishop Evans went missing last Friday after jumping into a rough section of the Rio Grande River. According to the Texas Military Department, he was attempting to assist two drowning migrants who were crossing the river from Mexico into the U.S. He removed his jacket and radio and left them on the shore. He never emerged from the water.

His body was recovered near the Mexican side of the river after a multi-day search. Evans was a field artilleryman assigned to a regiment in New Braunfels, which is close to San Antonio. He was 22 years old, and had joined the National Guard three years prior.

The day after the disappearance, the migrants were accused of drug trafficking and are in custody of the Border Protections.
